Buluan, Maguindanao — Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu said here Friday he will sue individuals behind allegations made through social media, that he and his two brothers were the top drug lords in the province and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
During his oath-taking for his third term as governor, Mangudadatu signed a complaint affidavit against a certain Bai Utto who had posted on Facebook that Maguindanao’s top official and his brothers – Ibrahim “Jong” and Khaddafe “Toy” – were the province’s “big boss, drug lord” in ARMM and Maguindanao.
“We will not take this sitting down,” Mangudadatu said as he signed the complaint affidavit his counsel Israelito “Bobbit” Torreon had prepared.
Torreon said they will file charges of libel and violation of the Philippine cybercrime law against Utto for maliciously tagging the governor as “drug lord.”
Some 1,300 other netizens, who shared or commented in support of the FB post, will also be included in the complaint, he said.
Torreon said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was already helping track down the suspects and was close to establishing the real identities and whereabouts of the suspects. The formal charges will be filed within a week, he said.
“The (Facebook) post is a grave insult to the good name and reputation of the Mangudadatu family. To Bai Utto and those who shared his post and/or commented adversely against my clients – (We’ll) see in court,” Torreon said.
