The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday said more than 15,000 Maguindanao and Sulu residents have been affected by heavy rains brought about by the Intertropical Covergence Zone (ITCZ) in Mindanao and Visayas.
Myrna Angot, officer-in-charge of the OCD-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said a resident was hurt and three houses were damaged amid the heavy rains in Sulu.
Jabari Tilimani, 67, of Bus-bus, Jolo, suffered “minor injuries,” Angot said.
Three houses in Bus-bus were also damaged due to the turbulent seas.
About 50 families or 250 persons were also evacuated after big waves hit barangay Bus-bus in Jolo town.
The Jolo municipal disaster risk reduction and management council said people had to be forcibly evacuated” to prevent casualties.
Angot said the regional disaster risk reduction and management council “is ready to augment the needs of the affected municipalities.”
